The Story Plant team are constantly working to make our plant as safe as possible at all points of our service and delivery. Throughout the year we have developed a number of innovations which enhance the safety of our operations. In order to mitigate risk and improve safety as much as possible, the team have worked to develop innovations in key areas identified across the industry, as well as in areas which are often overlooked.
Recent safety innovations developed by the Story Plant team have included:
Attachment safety
The Story Plant team identified that while handling of attachments on site often poses a significant risks hand and foot injuries, it is an operation which is overlooked when identifying safety improvements. As a result, the team worked to determine areas of improvement where attachments were deemed difficult to manage, or were at risk of falling over.
As a result, our in-house team designed and fabricated solutions that aid safety for loading/off-loading and for safe storage on site. These innovations enable us to reduce the risk of injury whilst handling and the potential for damage to pipes and equipment in order to prevent failures.
Advanced camera systems
Following several industry incidents regarding plant / people interface and collisions, we have invested in 360-degree and human form recognition cameras for our fleet.
These state-of-the-art systems provide our operators with a full view of their surroundings from the cab of the machine, whilst also recognising if there is a person or machine in range of the machine. This enables the operator to ensure they are clear to carry out movements and operations without the risk of collision with a person or another machine on site.
In addition to this, we have also added camera systems which enable our Unimog drivers to receive a clear video feed from the end of a row of trailers. This has allowed us to greatly reduce the risk of any collisions occurring on site due to a lack of visibility.
