Haulage fleet upgrade complete

Story Plant has invested in seven new haulage vehicles as part of a strategy to improve the business’ sustainability and reduce the carbon emissions of its operations.

The company took delivery of two new Volvo FH460 lorries with Fassi 660 mounted cranes and five brand new Scania R660s, all of which feature Euro 6 engines, as part of an ongoing investment programme to upgrade the sustainability of the Story Plant fleet.

The new wagons offer the lowest level of carbon emissions to date and will enable Story Plant to improve efficiency and reduce haulage-based carbon emissions in line with the business’ Carbon Reduction Strategy.

The new wagons will also provide the Story haulage team with enhanced safety measures such as 360-degree camera systems, as well as a host of additional features to make the vehicles easier and more comfortable to work in for drivers, alongside our accreditation to the FORS scheme.

The latest additions come a year after welcoming 14 new RRVs with efficient Stage V engines and greater productivity rates.

Ian Purdham said: “Investing in these new wagons will further increase our resilience, reliability and cut carbon emissions, whilst continuing to support our people and deliver success for our valued clients. We constantly listen to our clients and understand that we play a huge part in assisting them meet their sustainability targets as a key supply chain partner who is focused on providing the best value.”

“I am delighted we are making positive strides in our commitment to reduce our carbon emissions, and we are already seeing a reduction of up to 20% in the fuel usage of our new fleet compared with their predecessors.”

The evolution of the Story Plant fleet is one of many initiatives underway within the business including, increasing the number of electric vehicles driven by colleagues and the introduction of a Carbon Reduction Steering Group.
